Pastoral

Bloomfield Collegiate School views its Pastoral Care System as being central to the provision of a safe, caring and purposeful environment where each pupil is enabled to achieve her potential and have a clear sense of self-worth. Staff members seek to work in close partnership with parents/guardians and the school actively encourages parental involvement.

The school strives to be a community which promotes learning and the pursuit of excellence in a friendly, challenging and supportive environment.  The overarching school values are: honesty, compassion, tolerance, courtesy, determination and respect for the school environment.

Certain members of staff have specific responsibilities in respect of pastoral care. The Safeguarding Team oversees work done in the area of Child Protection.  The Pastoral Care Team oversees both the strategic and day-to-day pastoral care work. The Learning Support Team supports learners with special needs.  The Pupil Mentors work closely with Form Teachers to support junior pupils.  A Counselling Service operates within school on two days per week.  The work of the First Aid Co-ordinator is supported by a number of trained staff.  The School Council provides pupils with a forum in which to have their voice heard.  The Anti-Bullying Committee (comprised of a number of Year 14 pupils) works to sustain the positive ethos of the school.  The Young Carers Team offers support to those pupils who may find themselves caring for a relative.  Liaison with outside agencies is encouraged. A range of Pastoral Care Policies (updated according to the Policy Review Schedule) is available on the School Website and, within these may be found the names of staff members involved in each of these important areas of school life.

Staff members are trained annually in Child Protection matters; training in other areas related to pastoral care is provided as required.
