Bloomfield Dancers Victorious at Ulster Competition

There is no stopping the Bloomfield Collegiate Dance teams under the watchful eye of Mrs Waterworth.

Once again Bloomfield Collegiate Dance teams collected more silverware at the Ulster Dance and Fitness Championships.

Our Junior Team were crowned champions and the Senior Team took third place.

We also had two duets competing and they took a first and second place.

Congratulations and thank you to all involved.

Graduation Ceremony of the Class of 2012

Thursday 10th May marked the last day of school at Bloomfield for Year 14.
Pupils arrived with parents, family and friends for an official ceremony at 12.30.
Everyone looked resplendent in their own clothes.

We were treated to speeches by Mr Campbell and Dr Barr and each pupil was presented with their Progress File, leaving certificate and a specially designed cupcake.
The event also included a hilarious DVD showing life at Bloomfield and a heartfelt farewell from the Head and Deputy Head Girls

All staff, pupils and guests enjoyed a lunch together in the canteen, where the much anticipated Year Book caused excitement.

As one grandparent said “What a fabulous way to finish your school career”

Jennifer Wins a CCEA Celebrating Achievement Award

One of the highlights of the Year 14 Graduation Ceremony was the presentation to Jennifer Gorman of a CCEA Celebrating Achievement Award.
Jennifer has faced much adversity in her school career but she remained focused, motivated, determined and at all times had a smile on her face.
Her peers gave her the biggest applause of the day.

Celebrations have begun in style, to mark the end of school life for our current Year 14.
On Friday an ice cream van visited school, the atmosphere was one of good fun and excitement.
The ice cream was a welcome treat in the middle of all the studying.

Madrid Trip 2012

During the Easter break, 20 pupils in year 13 and year 11 went to Madrid, for a Spanish trip. We went for four days and three nights, in this short time we managed to visit lots of places in Madrid, where we learnt more about the culture and the history of Spain. The Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Parque del Buen Retiro (Retiro Park,) Palacio Real (the Royal Palace of Madrid), Plaza de Toros de las Ventas, Plaza Mayor, El Rastro market and The Reina Sofia musem.

Our favourite part was the Plaza de Toros de las Ventas, which we visited on the third day. Here we got a tour of the biggest and most famous bullring in Spain, minus the bull fight!
We were given a really great taste of Spain, as we got to learn about Spanish painters and experience traditional music and dance at a flamenco show. We ate some delicious tapas and enjoyed chocolate con churros! Of course we managed to fit in some shopping and had time in the famous department store, El Corte Inglés.
Overall, we thought Madrid was a beautiful city, with so much to see and do and really enjoyed our visit!

European Youth Parliament Northern Ireland Winners 2012

On Thursday 29th March ten Year 13 pupils competed in the regional finals of the European Youth Parliament. In this debating competition Pupils become an MEP for the day and discuss issues of prevalence within the EU. Bloomfield Collegiate became the Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development and undertook the task of promoting innovation and research to grow the Agri-Food industry. Many other issues were also debated, for example how can governments reduce the impact of Wiki Leaks, should a single common European language be adapted and how the EU can foster positive relationships with the new governments of Arab Spring nations? Having been successful in the regional final the pupils now have the opportunity to become UK champions in September when they compete in the national final in Liverpool.

Bloomfield NICMAC Champions for the Third Year in a Row

The unstoppable dance teams under the watchful eye of Mrs Waterworth have been crowned NICMAC champions in both the Junior and Intermediate categories for the third year in a row.
Ansley Longridge and Lauren Vance were placed second in the Intermediate Hip Hop duet category.

It took many months of hard work and dedication from all the competitors and dance captains to reach the finals at Lisburn Leisueplex.. They all performed for the whole school which was thoroughly enjoyable and breathtaking.

The Junior team used the theme “Enchanted” and the Intermediates danced with the theme “Pirates of the Caribbean”

Congratulations to all involved, this is an amazing achievement

Junior Scripture Union Outing

Pupils from the Junior S.U enjoyed an evening of fun at Dundonald Ice Bowl.

Beth, Jessica and Lucy from the Senior S.U committee joined in the fun.

Top scorer went to Mr Irvine, who was clearly showing off.

After bowling we enjoyed a delicious meal at Wolfes, where Beth won the prize for the fastest eater.

It was brilliant spending time with each other outside the school day. A big thank you to Mrs Stewart for organising the event.

Bloomfield Pupils Win Physics at Home Competition

Two Year 11 teams entered this Northern Ireland schools competition, organised by Queens’ University Physics Department.
It involves making a presentation on a physics topic so that it is simple enough for non scientists to understand.

As a result, FIRST PRIZE WAS AWARDED TO BLOOMFIELD and so was SECOND PRIZE

The winning team of Caitlin O’Reilly, Karen McClean, Sophie Stevenson and Louise Magill won a digital camera each and their presentation was entitled “Radioactivity Rocks Our Socks”

The second place team of Cara Bradley, Bethany Peacock and Lauren Mackey won Amazon gift vouchers of £25 with a presentation entitled “Equal and Opposite”

In addition, the school will be receiving a science presentation organised through the Institute of Physics

Well done to all involved and a big thank you to Mr McEvoy, team coach.
