There are two main traditions in which Bloomfield Collegiate Preparatory Department prides itself:
-
the maintenance of high standards of work and behaviour, and
-
the care and attention given to individual pupils.
AIM OF THE SCHOOL
Our aim is to ensure that pupils receive a sound education in basic subjects and to provide a caring and supportive environment in which the pupils can develop their full potential.
To further this aim classes are kept small to ensure that each pupil receives the maximum of individual attention.
To help achieve this the school encourages close co-operation with parents.
THE CURRICULUM
Bloomfield provides a balanced, relevant and broad-based curriculum which follows the programmes of study as stipulated by the Northern Ireland Common Curriculum.
In the infant classes, an integral approach is used, whereas in Key Stage 2 individual subjects are more readily identifiable.
French is introduced for P6 and P7 pupils who have the stimulus of specialist teachers from the grammar school for subjects such as Art, Physical Education, Home Economics, Technology and Geography.
Computers are widely used in all classes.
The classrooms are arranged around an attractive central hall which is used for dancing, gymnastics and music. Each has its own cloakroom and has access to both the central hall and the playground.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Concerts, music and drama productions in which every pupil is encouraged to take part are regular features in the school year.
Sports day and the swimming gala are also popular events.
Girls who are learning to play a musical instrument are encouraged to join the Junior Orchestra or the School Band.
The Preparatory School Choir takes part in the senior school Carol Service and has appeared in Belfast's Waterfront Hall.
UNIFORM
The uniform is pleasant and serviceable and is worn by all pupils as prescribed.
Importance is attached to the maintenance of high standards of appearance.
Details of uniform are available on request.
