Congratulations to Naomi Long MP

Bloomfield Collegiate School is proud of its first Westminster MP, the Rt. Hon. Naomi Long MP, MLA.

Naomi was a pupil from 1983 - 1990 and left school to read Civil Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast.

A capable, intelligent, articulate and friendly girl, Naomi is an excellent ambassador for the School and her behaviour and achievements are reflected in the School’s aim of “Excellence in a Caring Community”.  She has always supported the local community and there are numerous examples of her caring approach in her recent role as Lord Mayor and as an MLA.

She remains an outstanding role model for the current pupils of the School as she continues to break all of the stereotypical expectations related to gender.  We wish her well in her new appointment.

Earlier this year, in celebration of International Women’s Day, the Lord Mayor paid a visit to her old Alma Mater.  She talked to the whole school about the opportunities available to women in the modern world.  She visited our newly built, state-of-the-art Technology department and held a very informative and enlightening question and answer session with the sixth form pupils from the Government and Politics classes.

We hope that we will be permitted to bask in some of the reflected glory from her recent success and we are encouraged that the Bloomfield Collegiate ethos may influence the future of our country in these most demanding times.
